Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders may become part-time

There are plans to downgrade one of Scotland's most famous army units to a part-time capacity, it has been discovered. Just a month after returning from their latest tour of Afghanistan, soldiers of the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders have been told they may be downgraded to the same level as the Territorial Army. The news comes in a leaked memo by Gen Sir Peter Wall who says that up to 5000 soldiers may lose their jobs, on top of 7000 losses already announced by the national government. Think of the burden that will put on those left behind. The government will be cutting experienced, front-line soldiers. This is an insult to these brave lads. They have put their lives on the line and now the government are cutting their battalion back to the bare bones.”
